The Tanganyika cichlids are a different kind of African cichlid that have different looks, behaviors and size. Some of the smaller Tanganyika cichlids can be quite smaller than other varieties, and if you have small fish, you can group more of them together in a tank. There are two basic kinds of Tanganyika cichlids that are the ones that come from the rocky shores and the ones that live in the sandy areas. The kind that you choose will determine the set up that you will need to create in your tank. Both types are beautiful fish, and you can enjoy the differences in the behavior and colors that make each of the types of them fun to watch.

If you choose to go with the Tanganyika cichlids that are from the rocky shores, you will need to create a tank that has a lot of rocks. The fish will use these rocks to create tunnels and caves in the tank and they can also act as a place to hide for the fish that are more timid and scared of the other fish. If you are going to choose the Tanganyika cichlids that are from the sandy shores, you will need to have more sand  in the tank for them to do well, and you can add in some snail shells that they will also use for refuge and hiding out. You can add gravel and smaller rocks to help create the best environment for them and to help them feel like they are at home where they are used to.

When you are going to get a tank for your Tanganyika cichlids, you will want to make sure that you have the right amount of space for them. Because they are big swimmers, you will need to have room for them to swim around. It is also important that you follow the instructions of how to care for your Tanganyika cichlids by having the proper ph balance in the tank, the right temperature which is usually higher than what other types of tropical fish need and you will also need to the right elements for them, which is determined on the kind of Tanganyika cichlids that you choose and the amount of fish you are going to have.

It is better to have one kind in the tank, either the ones that need the rocky environment, or the ones that need the sandy environment. You can add smaller rocks and gravel to the tank to help create the environment for them that they are used to. Tanganyika cichlids are beautiful fish to watch and enjoy in the tank, but they can require more care than other types of fish, so before you go out to buy them, make sure you know how to take care of them, and how to provide them with a good environment in the tank that allows to your Tanganyika cichlids the elements that they need and enough room to swim around in the tank.
